Two headed snake

I don’t know if you heard about the two headed albino snake that’s for sale, but when I did, I got to thinking about a few things. The first thing I wondered was if only one head eats. It turns out they alternate heads when they feed it. But I guess they could only feed one head if they wanted to. I wonder how the other head would feel. Its brain would register that it’s hungry then it wouldn’t be hungry I suppose, but would it want to eat? I wonder if they like eating or if it’s just something they do. I wonder how humans can tell if the snake enjoys eating or not.

Maybe both heads don’t know their stomach is full. Afterall, would the sensor nerves run to both heads or to just one? Maybe one or both heads is/are always hungry or maybe it/they doesn’t/don’t even know about hungry or full, and yet they both eat. What’s going on here? I wonder if anyone has looked into these questions.

Yet, the stories I’ve read say most two headed snakes don’t survive very long because the heads don’t connect to the same stomach like this snake. Wouldn’t the digestive and circulatory systems be capable of supporting two heads regardless? I mean does one more head add that much of a load that it can’t be supported by one stomach? Wouldn’t it just need to eat more often? Besides, does a two headed snake need two heads to live? Hmm.

It also turns out that this snake has one male head and one female head – I don’t know about the sex organs. The male head takes charge and the female head goes along for the ride. I wonder if they communicate somehow. From the footage I saw, the female head looked pretty hopeless and resigned to her fate. She probably got tired of trying to talk to him. Maybe they should just feed her head so she wouldn’t feel so bad. I wonder if the male would be as bossy if he didn’t eat. He probably would.

Oh well, I guess I’ll never know the answers to these questions, and I’m not going to spend $150,000 to find out. Besides, it’s got to be difficult enough being a two headed snake without having people performing feeding experiments on you.
