We went to Florida on our vacation and spent two days at Disney World and spent 4 more in Key West. We were just looking to get away and do a lot of nothing. Other than our plane flights, nothing of our vacation was scheduled.
We had never been to Disney World so we didn’t know what to expect. We got a package from Disney that included transportation from and to the airport, which was a nice feature to have. We weren’t going to drive anywhere anyway, so what’s the point of going through the cost and hassle of getting a car?
We were amazed to see how huge Disney World was, and we didn’t see all of it! I really wanted to go to the Animal Kingdom and see the safari, so we went there the first day. We really enjoyed that park. We did the Fastpass thing for the rides we wanted (Expedition Everest was FUN!!), and walked around enjoying the animals while we waited for our scheduled rides.
That turned out to be a perfect way to start our vacation. They really have a lot of animals in natural settings for you to view. They also have people to explain where the animals come from and how they live. We saw about 7 different varieties of pigeons from Asia. Maria was fascinated by the the hippos. They were amazing to watch up close. Hippos always make me laugh, and these guys were play fighting with each other the entire time we were watching.
There was so much to do in the Animal Kingdom, and they had some of the best ribs I’ve ever eaten. Believe me, I was thinking how odd it was to be sitting in the Animal Kingdom munching on ribs. I almost couldn’t eat, but got over it.
The second day we went to Epcot. It was the last day of their food and wine festival, and we did our best not to eat and drink everything. That was hard. It’s a good thing that place is so big because we needed to exercise off all that food. I think our favorite food was from Norway. We had Norwegian meatballs, cauliflower mashed potatoes, and lingenberry mousse and a Carlsberg beer. I went to the bakery and got some lefse.
Two days weren’t enough, but we knew that going in. Our hotel “room” was a good sized condo, much bigger than we needed. It was in Old Key West, which was a good place to be based. I would definitely go back and spend more time. I’m glad we started our vacation there, and I look forward to going back.
We have pictures, but they need to be touched up. I’ll post them here when I get that done.
