Going from 0 to 5K: preparing to run a 5K

Crossfit has been such a good program for me. The short, tough workouts keep me motivated and engaged. I’ve had excellent results with strength gains but I’m finding that Crossfit alone is not enough for me to lose weight, so I recently added cardio to my routine. I really don’t like running just to run so I decided to train to run a 5K. So for the next 8 weeks I’ll be following this routine to prepare for a 5K run.

Finding a race near Las Vegas in the heat of the summer is tough, but there is an interesting one in Boulder City, where you run through the train tunnels at Lake Mead – at night. It’s called Desert Dash Sandstorm I. It’s all weird enough to pique my interest and close enough to keep me motivated.

This won’t be easy for me, so if you think I’m slacking off, please prod me to get moving. Better yet, if you’d like to train with me, even virtually, please let me know by posting a comment, or via Twitter.
